President Lines to the US via Cape Town and Trinidad

Posted: November 24th, 2010 | No Comments »

Most people think of the old passenger liner route between China and America as being across the Pacific to the West Coast via the Philippines and Japan and often stopping at Hawaii. But in 1940 American President Lines was offering both the Pacific route and also the route via Cape Town and Trinidad. For those old hands who’d done the Manila, Yokohama/Kobe and Honolulu run to America a bunch of times a voyage home via South Africa and Port of Spain must have been a pleasant alternative.
