The 5 Biggest Badasses in Shanghai History

Posted: July 9th, 2010 | No Comments »

Historian Derek Sandhaus who produced the fun Tales of Old Peking and Tales of Old Hong Kong books has listed his top 5 badasses of Shanghai for CNNGO – not a bad list and one that could have included the hard man of the SMP Chief Inspector Gerrard, Huang ‘Pockmarked’ Jingrong over in Frenchtown, the Gary Cooper clone US Marshal Joe Tietelbaum and his nemesis Slots King Jack Riley and quite a few other gangsters, gun runners, gamblers etc etc. Shame he only confined himself to men – there were some badass girls too!

Still surely nobody would dispute Derek’s No.1 slot going to Big Eared Du (right below, obviously given the lugholes)
