Shanghai Christmas Treats Between the Wars
Posted: December 21st, 2009 | No Comments »Pop down the shops in Shanghai today and you’ll see plenty of Dove, Hershey, Cadbury’s and the odd posh chocs place around town. Between the wars apparently if a Shanghailander wanted to impress a woman with some chocolates it seems it was (at least in terms of the most advertised) that Swiss chocolates were the thing. Nestle of course are still around as are Peters Chocolates (though I’d never heard of them I admit) in Switzerland. Cailler, again Swiss, are now part of Nestle but still going as a brand while Kohler‘s are also still going, though are apparently not Swiss, but American. Sadly Cailler’s Rajah Bonbons appear to be a discontinued line – shame as they sounded the most interesting.
