The Cold Weather’s Arrived – Time for a Cup of Cocoa
Posted: November 3rd, 2009 | No Comments »The colder weather has arrived at last – the leaves seem, by my estimation, to be falling of the trees in Shanghai about a week later every year now thanks to global warming. Time for a warming cup of cocoa before bedtime in the centrally unheated apartments of Shanghai. Forget that overpriced crap that passes for a hot drink in Starbucks, what better than some Bournville Cocoa, shipped all the way from the Cadbury’s factory in Birmingham. Not sure where you’d buy it these days in Shanghai but in 1924 you could pop along to McBain’s on Kiangse Road (down among the bordellos back then) for a tin.
