The Sort of China Clipper You Might Not Expect

riversI must get this joke up on the blog before I forget it.

I went to a talk the other week organised by the Royal Asiatic Society in Shanghai on the Baghdadi Jews of Shanghai by Maisie Myer, the author of From the Rivers of Babylon to the Whangpoo: A Century of Sephardi Jewish Life in Shanghai.

She mentioned that at one point there was a a mohel who performed the traditional Jewish ritual circumcision who visited Shanghai as well as Kobe and other Asian cities. As he travelled around snipping away he was nicknamed the ‘China Clipper’.

Well I laughed anyway!
